Van Tanner, PA-C

Van Tanner graduated as a Physician Assistant from Duke University in 2000. In his first two years out of school, he was a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service. He worked at Federal Medical Center, Butner in Butner, NC, providing care to federal prisoners through the Bureau of Prisons. His career since that time has included sixteen years working with cancer patients and over five years combined in Internal Medicine and Palliative Care.
Although Van comes from a line of ministers, he was inspired to serve others via healthcare by stories about his grandfather’s love and service to his community during the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1919.
Van’s passion is providing the best care that he can to everyone despite their circumstances and lot in life, and he summarizes his outlook on life in three words: Dignity, Respect, and Joy. All people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and life should be lived with joy, even in the darker times.
Van is married with one adult child. He enjoys woodworking, furniture making, landscaping, and travel.
Van accepts new patients and looks forward to serving you and your loved ones.
