According to the American Lung Association and the CDC, RSV (Respiratory syncytial virus) is a respiratory virus that has been on the rise in North Carolina and the South in general.
RSV causes symptoms like a cold and is usually not life-threatening, but like the flu or the cold, occasionally it can lead to pneumonia and other complications, especially in children. RSV is more common in children, but since there are many different types, it is usually something we do not build immunity against. That means that someone can get RSV numerous times if they are exposed to it through coughing, sneezing, or sharing food or drinks with someone with the virus.
Thanks to the least two years of battling with Covid-19, we are all familiar with viruses at this point. If you or your child is experiencing the below symptoms, come to Med first where we not only have rapid tests for flu, covid-19 but also, for RSV. The symptoms are the same for the three different viruses, so testing is crucial.
- Runny nose
- Decrease in appetite
